Creating an energetic events hub within its historic context.
SHKS Architects adapted the former Oregon & Washington Railway warehouse in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood, into a destination events space for the region. Originally built to provide merchants such as the A.M. Castle Company and American Warehouse Company access to rail and marine shipping lines, the warehouse building supported economic growth in the 20th century. In recent years it has been used as an active brewery, restaurant, and tavern. The program for the 1914 structure’s renovation included the creation of a variety of gathering spaces that provide opportunities for fans of the city’s professional baseball, football, and soccer teams to socialize on game days or attend music and arts performances, weddings, or business events at an inclusive entertainment venue. The building’s rehabilitation refreshed its historic brick interior, renewed the structure’s façades, created an outdoor beer garden, provided industry leading video displays, and developed accessible indoor-outdoor connections.
