Providing an active and resilient resource for the county.
SHKS Architects worked with Snohomish County 911 to renovate and modernize a pair of existing buildings housing the county’s emergency dispatch services. The program consolidated multiple departments into a unified collection of spaces that will improve responsiveness and reduce response times throughout the region. The renovated facility features adaptable workstations for dispatchers, emergency management meeting rooms, staging rooms for regional public safety units, hardened critical support spaces, and increased amenities for staff members. The project was designed to LEED Silver standards but it did not pursue certification.
The renovation included seismic upgrades to the existing building to bring it in compliance with Category IV Essential Facility requirements. Full mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire sprinkler and elevator replacement occurred throughout the building. Site improvements included two emergency generators, site hardening/security improvements, stormwater upgrades, as well as planning for a future storage and workshop building for the Radio team.
