Seattle Fire Station 8

Client

City of Seattle

Location

Seattle, Washington

Scope

Renovation

A renovation to better serve the Queen Anne community.

The improvements to Fire Station 8, located in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood significantly increase the facility’s safety, functionality, and comfort, helping the Seattle Fire Department continue to protect and serve the community. The renovation to its existing facility included a seismic upgrade and addition to extend an existing apparatus bay and accommodate a 60-foot-long tiller rig on a restricted site in an established residential neighborhood. The renovation includes a fitness room with natural light and ventilation, a new ADA entry and restroom, a relocated Watch Office to engage more actively with the station’s surrounding community, and increased vegetation along the street. Fire department communications spaces for the station’s staff and the presence of a city information technology room involved coordination among several city departments. The project was funded by the Fire Facilities and Emergency Response Levy Program, approved by Seattle voters in 2003.
